Suomenlinna Open-air Theatre
Ryhmäteatteri performs in Suomenlinna Open-air Theatre during the summer season
Suomenlinna Open-air Theatre is located in Suomenlinna Sea Fortress off the coast of Helsinki, just a 15 minute ferry ride away from the city center.
The Open-air Theatre is situated in the Good Conscience ravelin. The theatre is completely under a roof and the seating is unnumbered.
Cafe Bar
The Open-air Theatre has a Cafe Bar, located in front of the fortress. It is open one hour before the performance and during intermission.
Weather conditions may limit services and availability. For example, in strong winds we cannot grill sausages for safety reasons. There is a restricted serving area where you are not allowed to consume your own alcoholic beverages. There are no benches or tables in the serving area. Outside the serving area you may enjoy your own snacks and beverages.

How to get to Suomenlinna
You can get to Suomenlinna Sea Fortress from Helsinki Market Square by boat: public transport (HSL) ferry or FRS Finland water bus.
We recommend arriving at the Market Square by public transport to reduce emissions. There are also very limited parking spaces around the Market Square.
We do not recommend taking the last available ferry or waterbus to Suomenlinna, as departure and journey times vary slightly due to passenger numbers, weather and other maritime traffic. Ryhmäteatteri is not responsible for any changes to ferry and waterbus timetables or other possible delays.
HSL ferry (Market Square – Suomenlinna Main pier)
The HSL ferry runs 1-4 times per hour, depending on the time of day. The journey to Suomenlinna takes about 15 minutes. The ferry departs from the east side of the Market Square, opposite the Presidential Palace. In Suomenlinna, the ferry arrives at and departs from the main pier of Iso Mustasaari island. From there it takes about 15 minutes to walk to the theatre.
The ferry is part of Helsinki public transport. For the ferry you need a ticket for zone A. Tickets are not sold on the ferry.
Water bus (Market Square – Artillery Bay pier)
The waterbus service to Suomenlinna is operated by FRS Finland. The journey to Suomenlinna takes about 30 minutes.
The waterbus departs from Keisariluodonlaituri pier at the Market Square. In Suomenlinna, the waterbus arrives at and departs from the Artillery Bay pier (note that there are 1-2 other stops on the way). From the Artillery Bay pier it takes about 10 minutes to walk to the theatre.
We recommend buying your waterbus tickets in advance from FRS Finland's online shop.
After evening performances the water bus will be waiting for the audience at the Artillery Bay pier. The water bus will go directly to the Market Square, once passengers are on board. A round-trip ticket purchased in advance from FRS Finland is valid on the water bus, and tickets can also be purchased on the water bus. There is no additional waterbus service after the daytime performances.
Please note that weather conditions are more likely to affect the waterbus timetable than the ferry.
Maps and services of Suomenlinna Sea Fortress
We recommend using Suomenlinna Online Guide when planning your visit. The guide contains maps and services, as well as ferry and water bus timetables.
