FAQ
Children
What ages is Pinocchio suitable for?
Our age recommendation for Pinocchio is nine years and older. This is based on some scary elements for younger children and the duration of the performance, which is approximately 2h 30 minutes.
Can I bring a baby or a toddler to the theatre?
Unfortunately, infants and toddlers can not be brought to the theatre. Our performances are too long for young children and often contain loud noises. Our theatre in Suomenlinna is enclosed and the auditorium is confined, and moving around with small children would disturb the performance.
Arriving
How can I get to Suomenlinna Open-air Theatre?
Suomenlinna Open-air Theatre is located on an island in Suomenlinna Sea Fortress off the coast of Helsinki. The Sea Fortress can be reached from the city center by a 15 to 30 minute ferry ride. On the island, walking to the theatre takes 10 to 15 minutes depending on your choice of water transportation, as the ferry and the water bus arrive at different piers.
You can get to Suomenlinna Sea Fortress from Helsinki Market Square by public transport HSL ferry, or FRS Finland water bus. We do not recommend taking the last available ferry or waterbus to Suomenlinna, as departure and journey times vary slightly due to passenger numbers, weather and other maritime traffic. Ryhmäteatteri is not responsible for any changes to ferry and waterbus timetables or other possible delays.
We also recommend taking time to enjoy all that the historical Suomenlinna Sea Fortress offers before or after the performance.
What should I wear to the theatre?
You can come to the theatre dressed as you feel comfortable. At the Suomenlinna Open-Air Theatre we advice dressing appropriately for the weather, as the auditorium can feel chilly especially early in the summer. The auditorium is, however, covered from rain.
How accessible is the Suomenlinna Open-air Theatre?
The Open-air Theatre is accesible by wheelchair. However, the Suomenlinna Sea Fortress area has challenges in accessibility - you can learn more here.
There is one wheelchair slot in the auditorium of the Open-air Theatre. A ticket for an assistanting person is free of charge. Book wheelchair tickets at Ryhmäteatteri's own ticket office.
If you arrive in a wheelchair or otherwise need help finding a suitable seat for accessibility reasons, please contact the staff at the theatre's cafe. In this case, please make sure to be there at least 30 minutes before the performance starts.
During the performance
How can I follow English subtitles during the performance?
Pinocchio is subtitled in English on Wednesday's and Friday's performances only. You can follow the subtitles with an application on your smartphone. There are no subtitle screens in the theatre. Remember to charge your phone before you arrive, as the application consumes battery.
- Make sure your phone is on silent.
- Download the Subtitle Mobile app from App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android).
- Follow the application's instructions and enter code: XV7P
Can the performance be photographed?
For copyright reasons, photography and video recordings are not allowed. Please note that the staging of the play is also protected by copyright.
