PALKINTOPUHETTA (MY PRICES)
A multifunctional comedy about victories, defeats, and the shock of discovering that your competitor’s award weighs 12 grams more than yours.
Juha Lehtola
Introduction
Character Is Only a Suggestion
A multitalented man who bears a striking resemblance to Taneli Mäkelä – actor, writer, clarinetist, carpenter, historian, marathon runner, farmer, magician, therapist, and much more – believes he has arrived to receive the Grand State Award, honoring his flawless career. Instead, he is handed the Minor State Award, a pitiful token of recognition, utterly useless to him.
Palkintopuhetta is a theatrical game, a road play that makes brief stops on red carpets, in hospitals, clothing stores, Spain, pig farms, and dance halls.
Acclaimed film and television director and screenwriter Juha Lehtola, an award winner himself, has written an irrepressible and fast-paced comedy inspired by a short novel My Prices by Thomas Bernhard. It is a story about victories, defeats, and people who decided not to change. And about the shock of discovering that your competitor’s award weighs 12 grams more than yours.
A duel between two brilliant actors. Sharing the stage with Taneli Mäkelä, Minna Suuronen appears in ten different roles
The performance is subtitled in English and Finnish on Wednesdays and Fridays.
