Ryhmäteatteri brings to the stage performances about life—both unbearably wonderful and deeply meaningful—during all three of its performance seasons.

In the spring and fall we perform at our Hesari theatre and during the summer season at the Suomenlinna Open-Air Theatre.

Our two venues, Hesari on Helsinginkatu in Kallio and Suomenlinna Open-Air Theatre (Suokki) in the Suomenlinna Sea Fortress, both offer a joyful playground where bold artists and an open-minded audience can come together. The Helsinginkatu stage is known as a venue for new Finnish plays, while Suomenlinna is a summer theatre for enchanting interpretations of the classics. The people of Ryhmäteatteri are united by a strong desire to develop and renew Finnish theatre art, to invite new creators to join, and to bring less-heard voices to the forefront, all while defending everyone’s right to be silly.

Founded in 1967, Helsinki-based Ryhmäteatteri is Finland’s oldest professional theatre company organized as a group. Our mission is not to generate financial profit, but to promote multi-artistic expression and foster social and cultural discourse both on and off the stage.

We bring together theatre professionals from different generations. We view theatre as a complete work of art. We want to explore its possibilities and find new ways to construct performances and tell stories. At Ryhmäteatteri, we operate in an atmosphere of trust. It is precisely this trust that encourages us to throw ourselves into our work with passion and to listen to one another. Through our performances, we bring to light the unbearably wonderful meaningfulness of life.
