Facilities
Our auditorium is located in the basement floor, and is accessed by stairs or a stair lift (please read more about the lift below). The theatre’s foyer on the basement is accessible and has a wheelchair-accessible toilet.
The cloakroom and box office are located at street level. The cloakroom is wheelchair accessible. The box office is located in the same room, but there are three steps leading up to the ticket counter. However, our staff is always available to assist you with ticket-related matters without needing to use the stairs.
The seating is unnumbered. If you need assistance in finding a suitable seat for accessibility reasons, you can ask the bar staff for help before the doors open (in this case, please arrive at least 30 minutes before the performance starts).
Stair Lift
Our auditorium is located in the basement floor, and is accessed by stairs. A stair lift ( V65, max. 260 kg, floor 55 cm x 76 cm) is located at the rear entrance on the Läntinen Brahenkatu side.
If you need to use the stair lift, please come to the main entrance on Helsinginkatu when you arrive at the theatre and ask for assistance from our staff. Please be there at least 30 minutes before the performance starts.

Arriving to Suomenlinna
In the video below, our theatre guide explains how to get to Suomenlinna from Helsinki’s Market Square by a water bus.
HSL ferries
The departure point for the HSL ferry is on the east side of Market Square, near the Presidential Palace. The nearest parking spaces are located on Market Square. There are no accessible parking spaces reserved for people with mobility impairments. The cobblestone pavement at the market square makes it challenging to navigate with a wheeled mobility aid. There is a ferry terminal building with seating. You can purchase an electronic ticket for the ferry from HSL.
In Suomenlinna, the ferry arrives at the main pier of Iso Mustasaari. The Rantakasarmi building, located at the ferry landing, has a waiting area for the ferry, which also includes an accessible public restroom. There is a ramp at the entrance to Rantakasarmi.
We recommend HSL ferries for wheelchair users. The most accessible ferry for wheelchair users is the Suomenlinna II. The doors open at the push of a button, and the thresholds between the car deck and the passenger cabin are low. Access to the ferries Suomenlinna II, Suokki, and Tor is via a ramp. The passenger decks have space for wheelchairs, but there are no designated spaces for people with mobility impairments or facilities for securing wheelchairs. The ferries do not have accessible restrooms.
FRS Finland water buses
FRS Finland’s water buses are accessible to wheelchair users via a ramp. The boats do not have accessible restrooms. An assisting person travels on the water bus free of charge. You can buy tickets online here or from the water bus.
Service ferry
The Suomenlinna service ferry departing from Katajanokka runs on weekdays. The ferry can carry several cars. Access to the deck is accessible, but the passenger compartments are cramped. The doors are narrow and the thresholds are high. However, the trip is so short that you can stay in your car. More information here.
Getting around Suomenlinna
The Suomenlinna Sea Fortress area can be somewhat challenging for people with mobility impairments. The paths in the fortress are paved with either stone, gravel, or sand. Uneven paved sections cannot be completely avoided. The terrain is occasionally hilly and difficult to navigate, so it is advisable for wheelchair users to bring an assistaning person. Weather conditions also affect the evenness and slipperiness of the paths.
Next to Suomenlinna’s blue main route runs a slightly easier route, which allows people using wheelchairs or strollers, for example, to avoid some of the difficult sections.
